If I am not mistaken an ape zygote has 46 chromosomes. A zygote is a cell that is forming from reproduction, therefore if an ape is the result of that zygote and has 23 PAIRS of chromosomes, total chromosomes is 46. An egg is only half of the whole, therefore the egg only has 23 chromosomes
